RE: City Council, Planning & Parks & Recreation Commission Special Joint Meeting
Dear Mayor Foley, Members of the City Council and Commissioners
As a library patron, volunteer, Friend of the Libraries, and advocate for my city, I write to support and
celebrate the Master Plan for the Lions Park Project.
Long time residents have come to know this park, the NCC and Dungan Library. We have seen it
thrive with events, families and daily use. We have seen it change over the years.
Before you is a plan whose time has come!
To paraphrase author, speaker, motivator Simon Sinek, moving forward with this project we are now
able to talk about the completion of Lions Park and its exciting elements with such clarity, as if we are
talking about the past.
Picture a revitalized downtown! Residents of the Westside (including the 3 -story work live units) are
enjoying a stroll in "their" park. The diversity that is Costa Mesa is coming together experiencing
music, books, the arts, a coffee! Parents and children, teens and friends, adults are gathering for
programs and opportunities to celebrate all the this community is. Meetings and events are taking
place in an event space that is open, inviting and full of energy.
The effects of this project will have more than a ripple. It will provide a "wave" that spills out into the
Triangle, surrounding neighborhoods, the business community and our schools and universities.
Having been an interested party in the library project for 15 years, I am excited to see visionary
leadership, community building and the celebration of revitalization in action!
Thank you,
Charlene
