AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA MAKING PROVISION FOR ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS UNDER THE UNIFORM PLUMBING CODE RELATING TO GAS METERS, AND SETTING FORTH REASONS THEREFOR. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA DOES HEREBY I ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1: The City Council of the City of Costa Mesa hereby finds and declares that public utility gas meters which are installed on residential housing are, by reason of their form and structure and the pressure regulator device unsightly to the human eye. The City Council further finds and declares that modern building practices can be followed which will obscure the meter equipment from the human eye in residential housing. The City Council further finds and declares that practical inexpensive methods of architectural design in the residential structure can provide for the obscurity of gas meter installations without unreasonable cost to the developer or purchaser. The City Council further finds and declares that the health, safety and welfare of the community require regulation of the installa- tion of gas meters. Accordingly, there is added to the Costa Mesa Municipal Code, Section 5-54 which shall read as follows: SECTION 2: "Section 5-54 Gas Meter Installation The installation of gas meters on all residential housing units shall be performed in a manner so as to obscure said installation from view from any place on or off the property. Said installation shall be in a manner acceptable to the Public Utility and shall be in the form of a vault, wall cabinet or wall box, and shall be installed in accordance with standard plans and specifications of the City of Costa Mesa."
