HomeMy WebLinkAbout257 - Prohibiting the Sale of FireworksORDINANCE NO. 257 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, PROHIBITING THE SALE OF FIREWORKS AND REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 180. The City Council of the Ciyy of Costa Mesa does hereby ordain as follows: SECTION 1. FIREWORKS PROHIBITED. No person, firm, association, or corporation shall sell, display, give away, store keep, stock, or discharge, fire,explode, or set off or otherwise dispose of any fireworks or firecrackers of any description within the City; provided, however, that it shall be lawful, after app- roval by the City Council, to have the custody, possession, and trans- portation of fireworks within the incorporated limits of the City to be used at a public display of fireworks in said City. SECTION 2. PENALTY. Any person who violates any of the provisions of this Ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punishable by a fine not to exceed $300.00 or by imprisonment in the City or County Jail not to exceed six months, or by both such fine and imprisonment. SECTION 3. REPEAL. Ordinance No. 180 is hereby repealed. SECTION 4. ENACTMENT. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in full force and effect thirty (30) days after its passage, and prior to the expiration of fifteen (15) days from its passage shall be published once in the GLOBE - HERALD and PILOT, a newspaper of general circulation, printed and pub- lished in the City of Costa Mesa, together with the names of the members of the City Council voting for and against the same.
