HomeMy WebLinkAbout365 - Amending License Fees for Professions, Retail and Manufacturing BusinessesORDINANCE NO. 365 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA AMENDING THE LICENSE FEES FOR PROFESSIONS, RETAIL AND MANUFACTUR- ING BUSINESSES. The City Council of the City of Costa Mesa does hereby ordain as follows: SECTION 1. Section 6201, Part I, Article 2, Chapter VI of the Municipal Code of the City of Costa Mesa is hereby amended to read as follows: SECTION 6201. License Fees: Manufacturing - Wholesaling. Every person conducting, managing or carrying on a business at whole- sale, and every person engaged in conducting, managing or carrying on a manufacturing business not otherwise specifically licensed by any other provisions of this Chapter shall pay an annual license fee based upon the annual gross receipts of such business according to the following schedules: Under $15,000 $10.00 per year $15,OOo to $35,000 25.00 per year $350000 to $55,000 35.00 per year $55,000 to $85,000 45.o© per year $85,000 to $200,000 60.00 per year $200.4000 to $500,000 100.00 per year Over $500,000 200.00 per year SECTION 2. Section 6202, Part I. Article 2, Chapter VI of the Municipal Code of the City of Costa Mesa is hereby amended to read as follows: Licensed. SECTION 6202. Same. Retail Sales. Other Busineeses Not Specifically Every person conducting, managing or carrying on any retail business or conducting, managing or carrying on the business of selling goods, wares and merchandise or any article or thing of value at retail and not otherwise specifically licensed by this Chapter, and every person conducting, managing or carrying on any business that is not specifically licensed by this Chapter, shall pay an annual license fee based upon the annual gross receipts of this business according to the following schedules: -1- Under $10,000 $10.00 per year $10,000 to $25,000 25.00 per year- $25,000 to $40,000 35.00 per year $40,00o to $75,000 45.00 per year $75,000 to $200,000 60.00 per year $200,000 to $500,000 100.00 per year Over $500,000 200.00 per year SECTION 3. Section 6203, Part I, Article 22 Chapter VI of the Municipal Code of the City of Costa Mesa is hereby amended to read as follows: SECTION 6203 Same. Professional. Semi -Professional. Every person engaged in any of the professions hereinafter set forth and who does not employ any other professional person shall pay an annual license fee based upon the length of time such person has been licensed or has engaged in such profession in the State of California, whichever first occurred, according to the following schedule: 1 to 3 years licensee 3 to 5 years licensee 5 years licensee and over SECTION 6203.1 $15.00 per year 35.00 per year 60.00 per year Every person or group of persons who employ any professional person who is not required to pay a license fee under the provisions of this Chapter shall pay an annual license fee according to the following schedule: $60.00 for each professional person or for each member of the firm, plus $15.00 for each such employee. SECTION 6203.2 No professional person who is an employee only shall be required to pay a license fee. Any professional person who is employed and also engages in his profession independently of employment shall be required to pay the license fee provided in Section 6203. -2- SECTION 6203.3 The businesses referred to are the following: Accountant Advertising Counselor Appraiser Architect Artist Assayer Attorney at Law Auditor Bacteriologist Certified Public Accountant Chemist Chiropodist Chiropractor Collection Agency Dental Laboratory Dentist Designer or Decorator Draftsman Drugless Practitioner Electrologist Engineer Civil Engineer Chemical Engineer Consulting Engineer Electrical Engineer Hydraulic Engineer Industrial Engineer Mining Engineer Engraver Geologist Illustrator or Show Card Writer Insurance Adjuster or Claims Adjuster Insurance Broker Landscape Gardener or Landscape Architect Medical Laboratory Occulist Optician Optometrist Osteopath Physician Real Estate Broker Real Estate Salesman Surgeon Surveyor Taxidermist Veterinarian SECTION 4. Section 6201, Part I, Article 2, Chapter VI of the Municipal Code of the City of Costa Mesa is hereby repealed. SECTION 5. ENACTMENT. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this Ordinance and within fifteen (15) days after the passage thereof shall cause this ordinance to be published, as required by law, in the GLOBE -HERALD and PILOT, a newspaper of general circulation, printed and published in the City of Costa Mesa, and this ordinance shall take force and effect immediately pursuant to subsection (d), section 36937 of the Government Code of the State of California.
