ID'S- 5 4 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE ORANGE COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY (OCTA) TO CHANGE BUS SERVICE ON ORANGE AVENUE (ROUTE 53). THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: WHEREAS, the Orange County Transportation Authority is responsible for the operation of bus service in the City of Costa Mesa; and WHEREAS, the OCTA is currently reviewing modifications to existing transit services; and WHEREAS, the City of Costa Mesa and residents of Eastside Costa Mesa are desirous of modifications to existing bus service on Route 53 on Orange Avenue to reduce noise and traffic congestion through the existing single-family neighborhood; and WHEREAS, alternatives exist that are cost effective and will serve the transit needs of members of the community while, at the same time, affording residents along Orange Avenue a safe and quiet neighborhood; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa hereby requests that the Orange County Transportation Authority consider and implement one of the following alternatives, stated in order of preference by this City Council, as part of its transit service modifications: 1. Relocate the existing Route 53 bus service on Orange Avenue to either Newport Boulevard or Irvine Avenue, or in some alternative combination; 2. Reduce bus service on Orange Avenue by 50 percent and utilize smaller (15-22 passenger) vehicles on this segment of Route 53. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that OCTA staff coordinate review of these alternatives with the appropriate staff of the City of Costa Mesa and representatives of the Eastside Homeowners Association.
