HomeMy WebLinkAbout69 - Regulating Auto WreckingORDINANCE NO. 69 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, REGULATING THE DISASSEMBLING OF VEHICLES AND THE STORAGE THEREOF AND PRESCRIBING THE PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF. The City Council of the City of Costa Mesa does ordain as follows: SECTION 1. DISMANTLING OR DISASSEMBLING VEHICLES. Any person dismantling or disassembling automobiles, trucks or vehicles of any kind, except within a building, shall dismantle or disassemble such automobile, trucK or other vehicle behind a fence not less than eight feet in height, and said fence must be located a distance of twenty-five feet from the front and side street lines of the piece of land, and so constructed as to conceal all material. upon said property, extending around all sides of the lot or piece of land upon which. said disassembling or dismantling is conducted. SECTION 2, REPORT TO POLICE. Before dismantling or disassembling any automobile, truck or other vehicle, the person proposing to do so must first make a report in writing to the Chief of Police of the City giving the name and make of the auto- mobile or truck, the model thereof, the owner if known, the State license number and the engine number thereof, and the manner in which said automobile, truck or other vehicle was obtained; and no such automobile, truck or other vehicle shall be dismantled earlier than three hours after such report is made. SECTION 3. STORING OF VEHICLES. No person shall stare or allow to be stored upon his property any automobile, truck or other vehicle which is either dismantled -)r disassembled, either in whole or in part, or does not qualify to be operated upon the highways under the Vehicle Code of the State of California without first obtaining a permit from the City Council. SECTION L}. EXCEPTION. The provisions -of this Ordinance -1- shall not apply to any person, firm or corporation engaged in the business of repairing automobiles or trucks or other vehicles who are operating under a business license issued by the City. SECTION 5. PENALTY FOR VIOLATION. Any person violating the provisions of this Ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punishable by a fine of not more than Three Hundred Dollars ($300.00) or by imprisonment in the City or County Jail for a period of not more than six (6) months or by both such fine and imprisonment. SECTIOD 6. ENACTMENT CLAUSE. This Ordinance shall. take effect and be in full force thirty (30) days from and after its passage. Prior to the expiration of fifteen (15) days from and after its passage, this Ordinance, together with the names of the members of the City Council voting for and against the same, shall be published once in the Costa Mesa Globe Herald, a newspaper printed in the City of Costa Mesa.
