AN ORDNANCE OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA CALIFORNIA, AMENDNa. O[tDI-
NANCE NO. 33, ESTABLISHING ROLES AND RbURONS GOVERNING VACATION
LEAVE AND VACATION PAY, ESTABLISHINI THE HOLIDAYS FOR CITY EMPW EE3
AND PROVIDING FOR T,ISAS[LITY PAYMENTS.
The City Council 3f the City of Costa Mesa does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 1.3 of ARTICLE I of Ordinance No. 33 is hereby amended
to read as follows:
"Employees of the Fire and Police Departments shall be given an annual
vacation of fifteen (15) consecutive days. The respective Chiefs of the Fire and
Police Departments shall designate the vacation period for each member of his
department, and in doing so he shall give due consideration to the desires of the
members of the deppxUent, but his decision in this respect shall be final and
conclusive."
SECTION 2. Section 1.5 of ARTICLE I of Ordinance 32 is hereby amended to
read as follows:
"SECTION 1.5, CALENUR YEAR PERIOD FOR VACATIONS AND FRACTIONAL VACATIONS.
Vacation leave shall be based upon a calendar year and shall be taken dur-
ing the calendar year following the first Rill yearls continuous employment, p:-o-
vided, however, that aW officer or employee who shall commence his employment
after the beginning of a calendar year shall be entitled to a vacation for only
the proportionate fraction of months to his credit during the immediate preceding
calendar year, and no cr3dit shall be allowed for the months of service in the
calendar year in which such vacation is taken.
Additional accrued vacation may be granted by a department head by reason
of death or illness in the immediate family of the officer or employee.
Additional vacation days shall be allowed to those officers and employees
whose vacation leave encumber the holidays set forth in the.Government Code as
State Holidays.

Credit shall be given for fraotions of months exceeding one-half a month

SECTION 3. Section 2.1 of ARTICLE II is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Officers and employees of the Fire and Police Departments shall work each
day ac such da<q may fall in the scheduled assignments of duties as specified by
the respective Chiefs, regardless of Legal holidays, and the working of arty legal
holiday shall not entitle such employee to extra time offr overtime, or additional
compensation."
SECTION 4. Section 2.3 of ARTICLE II of Ordinance No. 33 is hereby amended
to read as follows:
"EVloyees of the Fire Department shall be employed on a shift basis, con -
listing of twenty-four (24) hours on duty and twenty-four (24) hours off duty, with
a minimum of seventy-two (72) hours of duty during each seven daffy period."
SECTION 5. There is hereby added to ARTICLE III of ordinance No. 33 a
new subsection reading as follows:
"SECTION 3.7. SICK IEAPE. Sick leave with pay maty be granted on that
sick leave accrued to each employee,
by the
Department Head, to ary employee
of
such department for death or serious
illness
in the immediate family of such
em-
ployeeo."
SECTION 6. MCTMENT. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force
thirty (30) days from and after its passage and prior to the expiration of fifteen
(15) days from its passage shall be published once in the Costa Mesa !Nobe Herald,
a newspaper of general circulation, printed and published in the City of Costa
Mesa, together with the names of the members of the City Council voting for and
againstthe same.
