The stucco and the roof were finalized some months ago and signed off by your building department. No one ever said a word about the wood section of the garage, or the roof over this section (a hot mop roof) . The building inspector thought that I had added this section, in question,to the garage. I told him that it was there when I bought . the property and fortunately was able to find a picture that verified my statement. He said that I had to get this section of the garage O. K. 'd by Planning and then he would not have a problem signing it off. I went to Planning and was told that this section was not on . my plans, and I would have to go back to the Planning Commission and the Redevelopment Agency again (another $600 . 00 fee) to add this to the plans. I then brought back a set of plans which had the city ' s stamp of approval verifying the addition was in fact on the 170 Wells Place, Costa Mesa, California 92627 714-646.7178 October 15 , 1990 Improvements requi2 under PA-89-120/RA-89-10 . 170 Wells Place Page 2 plans. Then Planning said I would either have to go back through the Redevelopment Agency to get approval for the wood on this small section or rip it off and then stucco it. I was also told that I would have to put a tile roof on the hot mop section. I explained to Planning that the roof was hot mopped because it is a near flat roof etc. I told Planning that I could bring the tile along the edge which would give the appearance of a tile roof, Planning said this would suffice. When I asked Planning why no one had ever said anything to me when I was in the middle or beginning etc. of doing the stucco or roof, Planning said "That' s not my department. " So I am asking you, Mr. Lamm, why am I being singled out and treated in this manner? The stucco and the roof were finalized and now I am being asked to rip off and -throw. away; $600. 00-'of material and labor 'plus pay at least another $1500. 00. This is not what I would term "fair" nor is it in the best interest of the community, nor, does it detract from the appearance of the property. It is in my backyard and only visible if looking for it. I could easily whitewash it the same color as the stucco and it would not be noticeable at all. Also, I want you to know, it is road blocks like this that have caused the delay in finishing the project - not just my ignorance of the building rules. It is hard for me to believe that the city would send a letter threatening my well being, my ability to support myself and intentionally inflicting mental distress by threatening to turn me over to the city attorney' s office for prosecution.
