HomeMy WebLinkAbout91-09 - Revising Residential Parking Standards for Garage Door Widths1447 RESOLUTION NO. 91-9 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, REVISING THE RESIDENTIAL PARKING STANDARDS FOR GARAGE DOOR WIDTHS. WHEREAS, the "City of Costa Mesa Parking Standards", included as Exhibit A in Title 13, Chapter V, Article 2, Section 13-559, paragraph (g) of the Costa Mesa Municipal Code, may be amended by resolution should a change be warranted; and WHEREAS, the Planning Staff Marro dated January 10, 1991, summarizes a study undertaken regarding the reduction of garage door widths from nine (9) feet to eight (8) feet and eighteen (18) feet to sixteen (16) feet for single- and double -car garages, respectively; and WHEREAS, at the Planning Commission meeting of January 14, 1991, Planning Commission unanimously adopted Resolution No. PC -91-04 recommend- ing to City Council approval of the Parking Standards amendment. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa does hereby find, determine, and resolve as follows: 1. That the reduction in garage door widths is consistent with the intent and objectives of the City's Planning, Zoning, and Development Ordinances. 2. The proposed amendment to the City of Costa Mesa Parking Standards is compatible with the objectives, policies, and programs specified in the General Plan. 3. The reduction in required garage door widths will not be materi- ally detrimental to property values, and will not jeopardize, endanger, or otherwise constitute a menace to those accessing the garage. 4. For the foregoing reasons, the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa does hereby resolve to amend the City of Costa Mesa Parking Standards to allow the reduction of garage door widths to eight (8) feet for single -car garages and sixteen (16) feet for double car garages if accessed by a straight -in driveway leading to a public street or if the minimum drive aisle or back-up width is increased to at least 30 feet for garages accessed by a 90 -degree turning maneuver.
