Home My WebLink About62-42 - Commending the 1961-1962 Costa Mesa High School Varsity Basketball Team and its Coach135 RESOLUTION NO. 62-42 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA COMMMING THE 1961-62 COSTA MESA HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM AND ITS COACH. WHEREAS, the Costa Mesa High School Varsity Basketball Team, known as the "Cinderella Team" in high school basketball, has distinguished itself by the display of excellent sportsmanship throughout its 1961-1962 season; and WHEREAS, despite the fact that Costa Mesa High School is only four years old, this team made the CIF Class AA Playoffs for the semi-finals, and finished in a three-way tie for third place in the Freeway League; and WHEREAS, this Costa Mesa team has established a record of achievement in basketball for succeeding teams to emulate; and WHEREAS, this City Council deems it proper, fitting, and advisable that the Mustangs and their Coach be formally commended for their efforts; NOW, TDREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa that the Mustangs 1961-62 Costa Mesa High School Varsity Basketball Tbam, and Jules Gage, its coach, be, and the same are hereby, formally com- mended om-rmended for their good sportsmanship and excellent record of achievement in the current season; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk of the City of Costa Mesa is hereby directed to transmit a certified copy of this Resolution to the team and its coach.
