HomeMy WebLinkAbout63-48 - Marina - Support of County Supervisors UrgedRESOLUTION N0. 63-48 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA URGING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF ORANGE TO DECLARE THEIR INTENTION TO FAVOR THE USE OF MARINE CHANNELS AND WATERWAYS IN THE TIDELANDS AT THE MOUTH OF THE SANTA ANA RIVER IN THE CITIES OF COSTA MESA, HUNTINGTON BEACH, AND NEWPORT BEACH. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa wishes to take positive action to initiate engineering feasibility studies of potential marine channels lying within and without the limits of the City; and WHEREAS, all members of the Board of Supervisors of Orange County have stated their belief in the marina potential of these lands, and similar lands in Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, and areas of the County of Orange near the mouth of the Santa Ana River; and WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors has in fact directed certain County department heads to cooperate in developing this potential; and WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach and private landowners nearby have also publicly stated their belief in the marina potential of this area; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Orange be, and the same is hereby, urged to declare itself further as follows: That the Board of Supervisors state by resolution or declaration of policy their intent to favor the use of marine channels and waterways developed in the tidelands area of the Santa Ana River mouth by marina lands within the City of Costa Mesa if engineering studies prove the feasibility of such use; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that it is the intent of this resolution that the Board of Supervisors extend this declaration of policy to include the cities of Newport Beach and Huntington Beach.
