HomeMy WebLinkAbout64-96 - Urging Ballot Voting at U.S. Conference of Mayors301 RESOLUTION N0. 64-96 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, URGING THAT PROVISION BE MADE FOR BALLOT VOTING AT THE ANNUAL UNITED STATES CONFERENCE OF MAYORS. WHEREAS, one of the most important objectives of the United States Conference of Mayors is to secure Rill and accurate expression of the opinion of its membership; and WHEREAS, voting by acclamation, by rising, or by count of hands, is at times subject to confusion and uncertainty as to equitable representation of Cities participating; and WHEREAS, delegates at the current and preceding Conferences have expressed themselves as disappointed at the lack of clarity in present procedure, when closely contested issues are under discussion; and WHEREAS, the United States Conference of Mayors is vitally concerned with fair, just and equitable representation for Cities at all times; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa, that the United States Conference of Mayors be, and it is hereby urged to provide for the use of paper ballots, when needed, in its sessions; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that for the purpose of assuring equitable repre- sentation for all Cities, numbered ballots should be issued in blank to authorized delegates, upon registration, and that said ballots, and only said ballots, should be used in voting; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a certified copy of this Resolution shall be transmitted to the United States Conference of Mayors and the Cities of Orange County holding membership in the United States Conference of Mayors.
