HomeMy WebLinkAbout64-106 - World's Fair - Urging Investigation of PossibilityRESOLUTION N0. 64-106 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA URGING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF ORANGE COUNTY TO INVESTIGATE THE POSSIBILITY OF LOCATING THE CALIFORNIA WORLD'S FAIR IN ORANGE COUNTY. WHEREAS, the California World's Fair is a project of tremendous magnitude and worldwide importance, nationally and internationally endorsed and recognized, with great potential values and benefits; and WHEREAS, Orange County, as the fastest-growing and most dynamic County in the State of California -- indeed, in the United States -- is uniquely equipped to act as host to this important project; and WHEREAS, the successful production of the California World's Fair in Orange County will provide tremendous immediate and long-term economic benefits and also will project an image of Orange County as a vital and energetic area in which to live and locate a business or industry, and will leave buildings and facilities for permanent use in the County; and WHEREAS, Orange County certainly is possessed of the facilities, the site, the needed energy and the desire to host this project of national and international significance; and WHEREAS, successful management of the California World's Fair may only be properly achieved through an effective union of leadership derivedfrom business, government and local citizenry; and WHEREAS, Orange County communities desire through a public agency to initiate and promote development of a California World's Fair site in Orange County; and WHEREAS, it is believed that more than one half the membership of the Board of Directors of the California World's Fair non-profit corporation should be Orange County representatives. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa, that the board of Supervisors of Orange County be, and the same is hereby urged to investigate the possibility of locating the California World's Fair in �Orange County; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk of the City of Costa Mesa is hereby directed to transmit a certified copy of this Resolution to the Board of Supervisors of Orange County.
