HomeMy WebLinkAbout64-118 - Regional Shopping Center - Urging ExpeditionM RESOLUTION N0. 64-118 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, RE REGIONAL SHOPPING CENTER TO BE LOCATED ON THE SEGERSTROM PROPERTY AT BRISTOL STREET AND HUNTZINGER AVENUE IN THE CITY OF COSTA MESA. WHEREAS, the City of Costa Mesa, through its administrative staff and its City Council, have worked for over two years to locate a regional shopping center in the City of Costa Mesa for the purpose of creating additional revenue for the City and to benefit the people of the City of Costa Mesa; and WHEREAS, a regional shopping center is now situated on the Segerstrom property at the intersection of Bristol Street and Huntzinger Avenue in the City of Costa Mesa, with the May Company and Sears Roebuck and Company planned thereon. and WHEREAS, the City of Costa Mesa has expended considerable sums of money in engineering of streets, water facilities, sewer facilities and drainage facilities for said proposed shopping center; and WHEREAS, in addition to said expenditures of money, the City of Costa Mesa has entered into agreements with agencies of the State of California in connection with the San Diego Freeway as the same relates to the said shopping center; and WHEREAS, the City of Costa Mesa has further changed its zoning and use of land in the entire Northern part of the City of Costa Mesa by reason of said shopping center; and WHEREAS, the City of Costa Mesa has further designed and is now constructing a storm drain, which design was based with the stopping center land in mind as to capacity; and WHEREAS, the City of Costa Mesa has committed itself to the opening of streets in the shopping center vicinity to serve said shopping center and has in many other ways expended immeasurable time in the creation of said shopping center. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa does resolve and declare that the said above-described regional shopping center is of the utmost importance to the City of Costa Mesa and to its sixty-six thousand plus residents. The City Council does further declare that the time table which the owners of the property and the tenants thereon and the City of Costa Mesa have established for the development of said shopping center is of the utmost importance to the 347: City of Costa Mesa and that any change in said time table which would delay the development of said shopping center would cause the City of Costa Mesa injury and damage not only from the loss of anticipated revenue but by reason of the commitments which the City has entered into based upon the established time table.
