HomeMy WebLinkAbout63-79 - Building Codes - Urging Coontinuance of Local UseRESOLUTION No. 63-79 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA URGING THE CONTINUANCE OF THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE, THE UNIFORM HOUSING CODE, THE UNIFORM FUMING CODE AND THE NATIONAL ELECTRIC CODE AS INSTRUMENTS OF MUNICIPAL JURISDICTION. WHEREAS, it has been brought to the attention of this City Council that the Building Standards Commission of the State of California has been and is now reviewing laws and regulations pertaining to building; and WHEREAS, part, and in some instances all, of the nationally recognized Uniform Building Code, Uniform Housing Code, Uniform Plumbing Code and the National Electric Code, are to be rewritten and included in the new State Building Regulations of Title 24; and WHEREAS, municipalities throughout the State use the above-mentioned nationally recognized codes, and keep pace with modern practices and techno- logies by adopting amendments as needed to meet local requirements; and WHEREAS, amendment of the State Building Regulations, once adopted, would be a slow and unwieldy process, as compared to the present municipal practices; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa, that the Building Standards Commission of the State of California be, and the same is hereby, urged and requested to adopt the above-mentioned nationally recognized codes by reference, rather than incorporate their pro- visions in the State Building Regulations, in order that maintenance and enforcement of these regulations under local jurisdiction may be continued and encouraged.
