RESOLUTION N0. 654
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA
EXTENDING GREETINGS TO THE FIFTIETH STATE AND EXPRESSING
SUPPDRT OF THE EXCHANGE OF OUTRIGGER CANOE RACING EVENTS.
WHEREAS, the peop&e of the new State of Hawaii generously introduced out-
rigger canoe racing to the mainland of the United States in the Avalon to Newport
Harbor race on September 20th, 1959; and
WHEREAS, at the invitation of the people of Hawaii a newly -formed team from
the Newport Harbor Area is being sent to represent the mainland for the first time in
the famous Molokai -Oahu Outrigger Canoe Race on October 18th, 1959, the beginning of
Aloha Week in Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, several residents of the City of Costa Mesa are members of the out-
standing Newport Harbor team representing the State of California;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the members of the City Council of
the City of Costa Mesa, in behalf of the people of this City, extend greetings to the
Honorable William F. Quinn, Governor, and to the Honorable Members of the State Leg-
islature of Hawaii; and
�n BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we express our best wishes to the teams part-
icipating in the Molokai -Oahu Outrigger Canoe Race, and to all the people of Hawaii
Las they celebrate Aloha Week; and express the hope that this exchange of Outrigger
Racing events may result in a bridge of friendship between the people of two of the
world's outstanding recreation-vacationlands.
