HomeMy WebLinkAbout98-83 - Requesting the Public Employees' Retirement System to allow the employment of Andrea Daroca beyond the 90 - hour limit43 RESOLUTION NO. 98-83 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE PUBLIC EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM TO ALLOW THE EMPLOYMENT OF ANDREA DAROCA BEYOND THE 960 -HOUR LIMIT OF EMPLOYMENT. WHEREAS, the City has an immediate need for an experienced Finance Director after having lost both our Finance Director and Assistant finance Director within the last 12 months; and WHEREAS, the City has endeavored to recruit for a permanent Finance Director to fill this critical need; and WHEREAS, the City of Costa Mesa is currently employing Andrea Daroca as the Interim Finance Director; and WHEREAS, the City desires to have Andrea Daroca work for the City in the capacity of Interim Finance Director due to her specialized skills and to provide for a smooth transition to the new Finance Director, and WHEREAS, Andrea Daroca is currently retired under the Public Employee's Retirement System ("PERS") and may not work more than 960 hours in a calendar year, pursuant to Government Code 21151 (h), which will expire on or about October 1, 1998, except upon approval of PERS pursuant to that section; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa, as follows: 1. That the appointment of Andrea Daroca to the position of Interim Finance Director is hereby confirmed and that the appointment is necessary because the position requires unique skills possessed by her. 2. That the above appointment is hereby declared to be of a limited duration to continue only until the new Finance Director has been adequately transitioned into the new position. 3. That the Council does hereby request an extension by PERS for the above appointment to continue beyond 960 hours pursuant to Government Code 21151(h). 4. That the City Manager is authorized and directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to PERS and to take such other actions as are required to effectuate this extension.
