HomeMy WebLinkAbout284 - J.B. Stoddard - Water Pollution Control45 RESOLUTION NO. 284 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA REQUESTING APPOINTMENT BY THE GOVERNOR OF JAMES B. STODDARD OF NEWPORT BEACH TO THE VACANCY ON THE SANTA ANA REGIONAL WATER POLLUTION CONTROL BOARD (REGION 8). WHEREAS, the people of the County of Orange are vitally concerned with water quality, especially as affected by waste disposal operations within said County and in neighboring counties) and WHEREAS, the protection of a safe water supply for all uses, and es- pecially the maintenance of coastal waters for recreational uses is of grave imp- ortance to the public generally] and WHEREAS, the Cities of Orange County are vitally interested in and affected by the activities of the Santa Ana Regional Water Pollution Control Board (Region 8), and WHEREAS, a vacancy on said Board has resulted from the resignation there- from of Mr. Courtney Chaddler concurrently with his resignation as Mayor of the City of Santa Ana, and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa believes that it is important, upon the resignation of a City Official in Orange County from said Board, that the vacancy should be filled by appointment of another City Official in Orange County, and WHEREAS, James B. Stoddard, a member of the City Council of the City of Newport Beach, has been suggested by numerous persons familiar with the functions of said Board as a person exceptionally well qualified to serve thereon, and WHEREAS, Mr. Stoddard is well (mown in Orange County for his services to the County Government as a Consulting Engineer in the field of water pollution, and is recognized for his competent service and advice to various public agencies in the County in matters relating to chemical engineering, in which profession he is licensed, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa hereby supports and endorses the recommendation of the Executive Committee of the Orange County League of Cities, and urges that the Governor of the State of California give serious consideration to the appointment of James B. Stoddard to fill the vacancy on the Santa Ana Regional Water Pollution Control Board (Region 8). f416 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a certified copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Office of the Governor at the State Capitol in Sacramento.
