HomeMy WebLinkAbout67-08 - State Preemption in Vice & Gambling - Clarification Urged.1W RESOLUTION N0. 67-8 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, URGING LEGISLATIVE ACTION WITH RESPECT TO PRE- EMPTION BY THE STATE IN THE FIELD OF VICE AND GAMBLING. !!l The City Council of the City of Costa Mesa, California, does hereby resolve ■ as follows: ■` THAT WHEREAS, there is a wide divergence between the Ordinances of various municipalities and the Acts of the State Legislature in the field of vice and gambling; and WHEREAS, the municipalities are in some instances frustrated in their efforts to legislate in this field for the health, safety and welfare of their citizens; and WHEREAS, legislative attention is necessary on the State level to resolve this problem; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Legislature of the State of California be urged to adopt legislation clarifying the areas of enforcement and legislative powers between the State and municipalities in the field of vice and gambling; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that greater attention be paid by the State Legis- lature to an overall examination and revision where necessary of State laws affecting the field of gambling and vice to the end that said legislation may be updated to conform with current social requirements.
