RESOLUTION N0. 67-20 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA REQUESTING THE STATE DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS TO GIVE PRIORITY TO THE IMPROVEMENT OF NEWPORT BOULEVARD BETWEEN 19TH STREET AND 16TH STREET. WHEREAS, the opening of the San Diego Freeway to Harbor Boulevard has 1 added more than 10,000 cars daily to the flow of traffic at the intersection J of Harbor Boulevard and Newport Boulevard; and WHEREAS, that portion of Newport Boulevard lying between 19th Street and 16th Street is presently inadequate for the handling of such increased vehicle volume; and WHEREAS, the extension of the existing Newport Freeway from Bristol Street to 19th Street, which is currently scheduled as the next phase in the development of the Newport Freeway, is of less pressing necessity than the improvement of Newport Boulevard from 19th Street to 16th Street; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa that the State Division of Highways is hereby urged and requested to give priority to the improvement of Newport Boulevard between 19th Street and 16th Street; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk of the City of Costa Mesa is hereby directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to District VII of the State Division of Highways.
