RESOLUTION NO. 69-91
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA,
CALIFORNIA EXPRESSING ITS DESIRE TO COOPERATE WITH THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH IN REQUESTING THE SOLVING
OF ENGINEERING PROBLEMS OF THE ADOPTED ROUTE OF THE PACIFIC
COAST FREEWAY AND URGING EXPEDITING OF CONSTRUCTION OF THIS
FREEWAY.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach has found
and determined that there are certain engineering problems along the
adopted route of the Pacific Coast Freeway; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa believes the
above problems are capable of being solved by the State Division of
Highways, District 7, and where it appears there is no necessity for
the reopening of formal hearings by the State Highway Commission to
alleviate these problems; the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa
hereby re -affirms its support of the coastal freeway route as adopted
by the State Highway Commission and would be opposed to any reopening
of formal hearings on this matter; and
WHEREAS, the City of Costa Mesa and the City of Newport Beach
Cooperation Committee, comprised of two Councilmen and one Planning
Commissioner from each City, has studied these problems and believes
the solution would come from the support of both cities; and
WHEREAS, the Pacific Coast Freeway through Newport Beach is a key
link in the freeway system serving both cities and delay in its con-
struction along this adopted route not only holds up the completion
of the Newport Freeway and Corona del Mar Freeway, but also diverts
allocated construction funds to other and less urgent projects; and
WHEREAS, further unnecessary discussion and delay will be seriously
detrimental to the best interests of the entire Harbor area;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City
of Costa Mesa that the State Division of Highways, District 7, is
hereby urged to initiate studies of the heretofore and above-mentioned
problems in the City of Newport Beach; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that every effort be made to expedite
completion of the Pacific Coast Freeway as soon as possible and thereby
permit the completion of the Newport and Corona del Mar Freeways without
further unnecessary delay.
