HomeMy WebLinkAbout67-48 - SB723 - Supporting Appointment of City Treasurers11 RESOLUTION No. 67-48 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY of COSTA MESA URGING THE ADOPTION OF SENATE BILL 723 PROVIDING FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF CITY TREASURERS. WHEREAS, the office of City Treasurer is one of the most responsible and important administrative offices in local government; and WHEREAS, experience indicates that many cities have unsuccessfully attempted to make the office appointive instead of elective because of public lack of understanding of the duties and responsibilities of the position; and WHEREAS, inasmuch as the office is an administrative rather than a policy- making position, and efficient local government requires that it should be appointive rather than elective; and WHEREAS, Senate Bill 723 provides a means whereby cities so desiring may make the office of City Treasurer appointive; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa, that the passage and adoption of Senate Bill 723 is hereby urged and requested in the best interest of efficient local government; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit certified copies of this Resolution to the City's representatives in the Legislature.
