RESOLUTION No. 67-48
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY of COSTA MESA
URGING THE ADOPTION OF SENATE BILL 723 PROVIDING FOR THE
APPOINTMENT OF CITY TREASURERS.
WHEREAS, the office of City Treasurer is one of the most responsible
and important administrative offices in local government; and
WHEREAS, experience indicates that many cities have unsuccessfully attempted
to make the office appointive instead of elective because of public lack of
understanding of the duties and responsibilities of the position; and
WHEREAS, inasmuch as the office is an administrative rather than a policy-
making position, and efficient local government requires that it should be
appointive rather than elective; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 723 provides a means whereby cities so desiring may
make the office of City Treasurer appointive;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Costa
Mesa, that the passage and adoption of Senate Bill 723 is hereby urged and
requested in the best interest of efficient local government; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit
certified copies of this Resolution to the City's representatives in the
Legislature.
