A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA
URGING THE ISSUANCE OF A COMMEMORATIVE STAMP IN RECOGNITION
OF THE BICENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE
STATE OF CALIFORNIA.
WHEREAS, the 200th anniversary of the founding of the State of California
will be celebrated in 1969; and
WHEREAS, an event of such historic importance is worthy of being
memorialized by the issuance of a coeemorative United States postage stamp;
and
WHEREAS, this Council deems it urgent, proper and fitting that the
bicentennial anniversary of the beginning of this great State should receive
the notice and attention to which it is historically entitled;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Costa
Mesa, that the United States Postmaster General be, and he is hereby urged
and requested to issue a suitable commemorative stamp in recognition of the
200th anniversary of California's founding at Mission San Diego de Alcala
in 1769; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk is hereby directed to transmit
a certified copy of this Resolution to the Mayor of San Diego for presentation
to the United States Post Office Department in Washington, D. C.
