A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA
EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO THE OWNERS, MEMBERS, AND STAFF
OF THE MESA VERDE COUNTRY CLUB FOR THEIR COOPERATION IN THE
HAIG NATIONAL OPEN GOLF TOURNAMENT
WHEREAS, the first national golf tournament to be held in the City of
Costa Mesa, and the richest in prizes ever to be held in the Los Angeles area,
has recently brought nation-wide publicity and prestige to our City; and
WHEREAS, the successful conduct of this major golfing event was made
possible by the whole -hearted cooperation of the Mesa Verde Country Club, work-
ing hand in hand with the Costa Mesa Golf and Country Club throughout the
preparation and playing of the tournament on the Mesa Verde course; and
WHEREAS, this Council is deeply grateful to the Mesa Verde Country Club
for its help in handling this first of five Haig National Open Golf Tournaments
to be held in Costa Mesa, pending the maturing of the greens and fairways at
the Costa Mesa Golf and Country Club; and
WHEREAS, the Haig National Open Golf Tournament places the City of Costa
Mesa among the outstanding leaders in the nation in the golfing fraternity;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Costa
Mesa hereby expresses its deep and sincere appreciation to the owners, members,
and staff of the Mesa Verde Country Club for their help in making the Haig
National Open Tournament a noteworthy event in Costa Mesa's golfing history; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that an executed copy of this Resolution shall be
transmitted to the Mesa Verde Country Club, and the City Clerk is hereby directed
to enter this Resolution in the permanent records of the City.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 4th day of November, 1968.
