A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
COSTA MESA IN SUPPORT OF THE FORTHCOMING PROPOSED
SCHOOL BOND ISSUE AND URGING A "YES" VOTE AT THE
ELECTION ON FEBRUARY 11, 1969•
WHEREAS, the Newport -Mesa School District will place a
proposed school bond issue before the voters on February 11, 1969;
and
WHEREAS, the present shortage of classrooms in the District
causes more than 1300 children to receive less than a full day's
education; and
WHEREAS, unless this situation is remedied, the shortage will
become increasingly critical with expanding enrollment thereby forcing
more students into double sessions; and
WHEREAS, this Council believes that a first-class school
system is essential to the social and economic well-being of the
city of Costa Mesa; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of the District has scheduled
the bond election February 11th, to provide funds for a building program
to meet the most urgent classroom needs, eliminate double sessions by
next fall, and enable more efficient use of existing facilities and
equipment; and
WHEREAS, this Council has carefully considered the proposed
bond issue and believes it to be soundly planned and in the best
interest of the City;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City
of Costa Mesa, that the citizens of Costa Mesa are hereby urged to
consider the importance of maintaining the level of educational quality
in the City; to consider the special and economic implications for the
community if the needed classrooms are not provided and to vote "Yes"
in favor of the bond issue on February 11th.
