A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA URGING
EARLY CONCURRENT CONSTRUCTION OF TWO SEGMENTS OF THE CORONA DEL
MAR FREEWAY.
WHEREAS, the City of Costa Mesa and the entire Harbor Area is ex-
periencing an acceleration of its normally rapid growth in population,
industry, and retail trade; and
WHEREAS, the University of California at Irvine is actively expanding
its major educational facilities in the immediate area; and
WHEREAS, public use of the coastal recreational facilities is constantly
increasing; and
WHEREAS, current traffic demands as a result of these influences are now
over and beyond the design capacity of the available street and highway system
and
WHEREAS, a freeway link to the southern Newport Harbor coastal area is
urgently required to meet these increasing traffic requirements;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of
Costa Mesa, that early construction and completion of the proposed Corona
del Mar Freeway is needed and the California Highway Commission is hereby
requested and urged to consider acceleration of this project; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the section between the San Diego Freeway
and the entrance to the University of California at Irvine, and the eastern
section of the Coastal Freeway between Bayside Drive and the Eastern Newport
Beach City limits should be built concurrently to reduce traffic congestion
through Costa Mesa and the Harbor Area.
