HomeMy WebLinkAbout69-55 - Public Access to Orange County Beaches - UrgingRESOLUTION 69-55 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA URGING PROVISION AND PROTECTION OF PUBLIC ACCESS TO THE BEACHES AND SHORELINE OF ORANGE COUNTY. WHEREAS, the Pacific Coast shoreline and beaches that exist in Southern California are the most valuable natural resources of the region; and WHEREAS, the shoreline can be used for a variety of purposes such as recreation, conservation and open space; and WHEREAS, access to the shoreline is diminishing with respect to the rapidly increasing population; and WHEREAS, the Orange County Planning Department has recently con- ducted a study of land uses of the Orange County shoreline and has made a report calling for the continued protection of public access to the shoreline and for expanded acquisition of beach land for public domain; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa urges all governmental agencies, which are in a position to do so, to take the necessary steps to provide and protect public access to the shoreline, and to obtain beach land for the public domain whenever possible.
