HomeMy WebLinkAbout70-18 - Urging Legislation for Local Agencies to Consolidate Elections44 ` RESOLUTION NO. 70-18 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE STATE LEGISLATURE TO ENACT NEW AND/OR MODIFY EXISTING LEGISLATION TO ENABLE NON-PARTISAN LOCAL AGENCIES AND DISTRICTS SERVING GENERALLY SIMILAR AREAS TO CONSOLIDATE ELECTIONS. WHEREAS, existing California legislation governing general law cities, school and special districts, does not enable City, School Board and Special District elections to be held simultaneously; and WHEREAS, the cost of conducting elections for non-partisan agencies serving generally similar areas, whether said areas coincide or not, could be substantially reduced by consolidating elections; and WHEREAS, this Council deems it to be in the best interest of General Law Cities, School Districts, and Special Districts, that provision should be made for consolidated elections; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa, that the Legislature of the State of California be, and the same is hereby urged to enact new o modify existing legislation to enable non-partisan agencies that serve generally similar areas, whether coinciding or not, to hold simultaneous elections.
