HomeMy WebLinkAbout70-87 - Requesting Orange County to Develop Regional Motor Parks148 RESOLUTION NO. 70-87 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE COUNTY OF ORANGE TO EXPEDITE THE DEVELOPMENT OF REGIONAL MOTOR PARKS, ON AN EMERGENCY BASIS IF NEED BE. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa adopted Ordinance No. 68-10, on March 4, 1968, prohibiting the operation of licensed and unlicensed motor driven cycles on unimproved private property, parkways, sidewalks, park lands and beaches; and WHEREAS, the County of Orange adopted similar legislation under Ordinance No. 2410, dated July 28, 1970; and WHEREAS, the City of Costa Mesa is negotiating for property to create an interim mini -bike park for the younger local residents and is also encouraging private enterprise in meeting all of the recreational aspects of this new pastime; and WHEREAS, our governments are mutually concerned with the biologi- cally and geologically fragile land resources left to us for recreation and environmental enjoyment; and WHEREAS, it appears that the public desires to increase the safety aspects of this recreation and diminish the undesirable ecological effects; and WHEREAS, the major recreational interests for this sport are regional in nature, particularly the larger trail cycles; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this City does hereby request the Orange County Board of Supervisors to expedite the development of regional motor parks at Los Coyotes, Santa Ana River, Ortega, or other suitable park areas, on an emergency basis if need be.
