HomeMy WebLinkAbout71-05 - Amending Employee Rules and Regulations - Establishing Holidays2eo,S RESOLUTION NO. 71-5 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING RULE 12, SECTION 12, OF THE RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE PERSONNEL SYSTEM OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, AND PROVIDING FOR ESTABLISHING EMPLOYEE HOLIDAYS. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa does hereby resolve as follows: WHEREAS, certain amendments in the Government Code, specifically in Sections 6700, 6701, 6702 and 6704, have changed the holidays for the State of California; and WHEREAS, the Government Code provides that a City may establish its official holidays by resolution; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it is in the best interest of the conduct of City business and in keeping with sound personnel practices that the following City holidays be observed: January 1, New Year's Day; February 12, Lincoln's Birthday; third Monday in February, Washington's Birthday observance; 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Good Friday; last Monday in May, Memorial Day observance; July 4, Independence Day; first Monday in September, Labor Day; September 9, California's Admission Day; fourth Monday in October, Veterans' Day observance; fourth Thursday in November, Thanksgiving; the Friday immediately following Thanksgiving; and December 25, Christmas. In the event any of the above holidays fall on Saturday, the preceding Friday will be observed. In the event any of the above holidays fall on Sunday, the following Monday will be observed. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the original of this Resolution be made a part of the permanent record of the City of Costa Mesa, and that each employee be advised through appropriate newsletter or publication of the holidays set forth herein.
