A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA
RECOGNIZING AND ACKNOWLEDGING THE PERFORMANCE OF JOHN MARSHALL,
THE FIRE CHIEF OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, IN THE RECENT
"TOYS FOR FAIRVIEW" GOLF TOURNAMENT CONDUCTED AT THE
COSTA MESA GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE
AS FOLLOWS:
THAT, WHEREAS, the Costa Mesa Golf and Country Club Men's Club
conducted a tournament entitled "Toys for Fairview" Tournament on
December lb, 1972, at the Costa Mesa Golf and Country Club; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor, Vice Mayor, and other high ranking officials
of the City government of the City of Costa Mesa were invited to participate
in said tournament; and
WHEREAS, these personages along with other members of the public
constituted one hundred seventy two (172) participants in the aforementioned
golf tournament; and
WHEREAS, John Marshall, Fire Chief for the City of Costa Mesa,
was one of the participants; and
WHEREAS, said Fire Chief John Marshall, in a commendable effort to
protect the Mayor and Vice Mayor from undue embarrassment, scored 172nd
of 172 players; and
WHEREAS, said Fire Chief John Marshall claims some disability of
an elbow which may or may not affect his golf game; and
•�. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa feels compelled
to extend the recognition for incompetence as well as competence.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, as follows:
THAT, Fire Chief John Marshall be commended for his complete
incompetence in the game of golf as evidenced by his performance in
the "Toys for Fairview" Tournament where he scored 172nd of 172 players.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that said John Marshall be commended for
his efforts to protect the Mayor and Vice Mayor of the City of Costa Mesa,
who also scored high in said tournament.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that said John Marshall be encouraged to
improve his golf game only to the extent necessary to score well above
the Mayor and Vice Mayor on any future tournaments;
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution edged in
black be presented to Fire Chief John Marshall at a suitable ceremony to
be conducted at midnight, near the 18th hole, at which time the City Manager
shall conduct the ceremony for the burning of bad score cards.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 18th day of December, 15?2.

regularly passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa
at a regular meeting thereof held on the 18th day of December, 1972.
