A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA,
CALIFORNIA, IN SUPPORT OF SENATE BILL 301, RELATING TO
PUNISHMENT FOR CRIME.
WHEREAS, Senator H. L. Richardson has introduced into the Legislature
of the State of California Senate Bill 301, relating to punishment for crime; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 301 makes punishment for any felony committed while
armed with a firearm, or in which a firearm is used, ten years to life for the
first offense and twenty years to life for any subsequent conviction, and
deletes provisions specifying additional punishment in such cases; and
WHEREAS, the City Council believes that the enactment into law of Senate
Bill 301 will bring about the reduction of crimes in which firearms are used;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Costa Mesa does hereby go on record in support of Senate Bill 301; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to Senators
H. L. Richardson and Dennis Carpenter.
