HomeMy WebLinkAbout72-47 - Urging Natural Gas Use to Reduce Air PollutionRESOLUTION NO. 72-47 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, URGING THAT NATURAL GAS BE USED IN PREFERENCE TO FUELS TENDING TO CREATE GREATER AIR POLLUTION. WHEREAS, it is known that air quality in the South Coastal and South-- east Desert Basins is deficient and does not meet State and Federal health and safety standards; and WHEREAS, it has been determined by State and local agencies responsible for control of air pollution that natural gas is the preferred hydrocarbon fuel and should replace gasoline and fuel oil wherever possible; and WHEREAS, the natural gas supply in the two basins is limited and must be imported; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa that this Council shall strongly support all measures to increase the natural gas supply imported to this area and any other measures which will lead to increased use of natural gas in preference to fuels tending to create greater air pollution; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this resolution be forwarded to the President of the United States, the Federal Power Commission and to Congressman John G. Schmitz and Senators Alan Cranston and John V. Tunney.
