HomeMy WebLinkAbout72-92 - Opposing State Regulation of Cable Television IndustryRESOLUTION NO. 72-92 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, OPPOSING STATE REGULATION OF THE CABLE TELEVISION INDUSTRY. WHEREAS, Senate Bill 1316 and Senate Bill 663 have been referred to the Senate Committee on Public Utilities and Corporations for interim study; and WHEREAS, both measures provide for State regulation of the cable television industry; and WHEREAS, the Federal Communications Commission has already established regulations covering the cable television industry; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa that legislation providing for State regulation of the cable television industry is hereby opposed. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this City Council opposes such regulation on the basis of conflict with Federal Communications Commission regulation and directs the City Clerk to send a copy of this resolution to the California State Senate Committee on Public Utilities and Corporations.
