HomeMy WebLinkAbout72-98 - Outstanding Participation in United Way Program by City EmployeesRESOLUTION NO. 72-98 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, COMMENDING THE EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING PARTICIPATION IN THE UNITED WAY PROGRAM IN 1972 AND ENCOURAGING THAT THIS ATTITUDE BE CONTINUED DURING THE CURRENT CAMPAIGN. WHEREAS, the 1972 United Way Campaign for City employees proved to be the most successful charitable fund-raising program in the history of the City; and WHEREAS, the employee contributions for 1972 more than doubled the previous year's amount, thereby increasing from $6,000 to more than $12,000; and WHEREAS, this total contribution resulted in an average gift per employee of more than $30.00; and WHEREAS, this average gift per employee was significant enough to place Costa Mesa number two in the United States, behind only Milwaukee; and WHEREAS, the spirit of community interest and enthusiasm was reflected throughout the entire employee population as more than 90 per cent of all employees of the City of Costa Mesa did in fact contribute; and WHEREAS, this level of giving and degree of participation far exceeds the various forms of mediocrity found in other public agencies. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, California, does hereby resolve that the employees of the City of Costa Mesa be given the highest commendations for their outstanding response to the problems of community need. Furthermore, it is hoped that this spirit of unselfishness can be established as an example for this year and future campaigns to come.
