HomeMy WebLinkAbout73-29 - Urging Enactment of "Federal and Highway Act of 1973"RESOLUTION NO. 73-29 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, URGING THE ENACTMENT OF "THE FEDERAL -- AID HIGHWAY ACT OF 1973," PERTAINING TO HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION AND URBAN PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. WHEREAS, the City of Costa Mesa recognizes the need for continued support of urban transportation as a benefit to the citizens throughout the United States and more specifically, in the State of California; and WHEREAS, it is also a known fact that thousands of lives are lost each year because of automobile accidents on our freeways and highways, especially in California; and WHEREAS, it is necessary to curb air pollution and cease the general congestion on the freeways and to continue the planning for highways and other transportation systems; NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa does hereby resolve as follows: SECTION 1. That the members of the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa hereby urge the enactment of "The Federal -Aid Highway Act of 1973," and that the State is urged to use federal highway funds for highway construction as well as other transportation systems; SECTION 2. That the City Clerk be and is hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to Senators Edmund S. Muskie, John V. Tunney, and Alan Cranston and Congressman Andrew J. Hinshaw, so as to convey the desire of the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa acting on behalf of the citizenry of the City of Costa Mesa, California, in the vital, urgent need for the continuation of a transportation system for the State of California.
