HomeMy WebLinkAbout74-35 - Supporting Assembly Bill 3247, Exemption of Street Lighting DistrictsJZ RESOLUTION NO. 74-35 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING ASSEMBLY BILL NUMBER 3247 OF THE REGULAR SESSION OF THE CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE, RELATING TO THE EXEMPTION OF STREET LIGHTING DISTRICTS FROM SENATE BILL NUMBER 90 TAX LIMITATIONS. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: THAT, WHEREAS, Assembly Bill No. 3247 of the 1973-74 California Legislature proposes to exempt special lighting districts from Senate Bill No. 90 Tax Limitations; and WHEREAS, said Legislative Bill provides that districts may levy a tax rate to generate the necessary revenues to cover their increased ex- penditures due largely to the increase in electrical energy costs; and WHEREAS, for fiscal year 1974-75 the City of Costa Mesa's Street Lighting District ad valorem tax will generate only 58 percent of the needed amount for necessary expenditures; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa strongly endorse Assembly Bill No. 3247; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution supporting Assembly Bill No. 3247 be forwarded to Senate and Assembly representatives for the City of Costa Mesa in Sacramento. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be forwarded to members of the Assembly Committee on Revenue and Taxation. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the staff of the City of Costa Mesa within the scope of the duties of their various offices assist the California Legislature in moving this bill forward for eventual passage by both the Assembly and Senate, and for approval by the Governor of the State of California.
