A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, COMMENDING THE COSTA MESA
FIRE DEPARTMENT UPON THE OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT
OF "CLASS TWO" FIRE RATING.
WHEREAS, a month-long survey has been conducted throughout the
City of Costa Mesa by the Insurance Services Office which consisted of a
thorough analysis of the community fire potential, the Costa Mesa Fire
Department, fire prevention, a review of water supply, fire communica-
tions system, and building safety; and
WHEREAS, cities are classified on a scale of 1 to 10, with standards
being so high that no city has achieved a "Class 1" rating; and
WHEREAS, by shifting most of the inspection and educational work
to the fire companies, the entire Fire Department has become deeply
involved in preventing fires; and
WHEREAS, the Costa Mesa County Water District was evaluated and
considered excellent due to the strong supply and reliability of the
water system; and
WHEREAS, the Costa Mesa Communications Department was rated
excellent because of a highly reliable telephone emergency reporting
system and dispatching network; and
WHEREAS, the Costa Mesa Building Safety Department was evaluated
and found to provide a high level of enforcement; and
WHEREAS, by the overall combination of all factors considered, and
through the work and cooperation of all entities involved, the City has
earned the lowest deficiency level in Orange County and is the second
city in Orange County to achieve "Class 2" rating; and
WHEREAS, the reduction from previous "Class 3" level will result
in insurance premium savings to homeowners and most businesses amounting
to hundreds of thousands of dollars a year;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Costa Mesa that the Costa Mesa Fire Department is hereby congratulated
and commended for their excellent achievement of "Class 2" Fire Insurance
Rating for the City of Costa Mesa; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that appreciation is hereby tendered to Fire
Chief John Marshall, the Costa Mesa County Water District, and all City
personnel who made this exceptional achievement possible.
