HomeMy WebLinkAbout75-11 - Recommending that Orange County Transit Directors be Electeda• r RESOLUTION NO. 75-11 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, RECOMMENDING THAT ORANGE COUNTY TRANSIT DISTRICT DIRECTORS BE ELECTED BY A VOTE OF THE PEOPLE. WHEREAS, a cherished tradition of the American people is "no taxation without representation"; and WHEREAS, the Orange County Transit District collects taxes and makes expenditures for the residents of Orange County; and WHEREAS, the District Directors make decisions which greatly affect transportation within the County and which have long-range development implications for the residents of Orange County; and WHEREAS, these Directors are not now directly elected to these important positions but rather are appointed in an indirect manner; and WHEREAS, the voters of Orange County have consistently indicated an ability to intelligently vote for persons to represent their needs; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa does hereby recommend that the California Legislature act to permit Orange County voters to directly elect persons to represent their interests on the Orange County Transit District Board of Directors.
