HomeMy WebLinkAbout75-110 - Urging State to Complete Freeway 55 and Extension of Freeway 57w RESOLUTION NO. 75-110 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, URGING THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO COMPLETE THE CONSTRUCTION OF FREEWAY ROUTE 55 AND SUPPORTING THE EXTENSION OF FREEWAY ROUTE 57. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: THAT, WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana has requested that the City of Costa Mesa support the extension of Route 57 from the Santa Ana Freeway to the San Diego Freeway; and WHEREAS, the City of Costa Mesa considers the completion of Route 55 (Newport Freeway) as the number one freeway priority at this time; and WHEREAS, the State Department of Transportation has a deep commit- ment to complete Route 55 because of its excavations and initial work and planning already in progress on this route; and WHEREAS, the prompt completion of this freeway is essential to the social structure, economy, and environment of the City of Costa Mesa; and WHEREAS, the City of Costa Mesa also recognizes the need for the Route 57 freeway to be built at the earliest possible date; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa: 1. That the Costa Mesa City Council hereby urges the State Department of Transportation to proceed as soon as possible with the completion of Route 55 (Newport Freeway); 2. That the completion of Route 55 is the number one freeway priority at this time; 3. That the Costa Mesa City Council supports the southern exten- sion of Route 57 after completion of Route 55 at the earliest possible date; 4. That the Costa Mesa City Council urges the County of Orange, the Orange County Transit District, and affected cities in the County to join with the cities of Santa Ana and Costa Mesa in support of said routes; 5. That the City Clerk of the City of Costa Mesa shall forward copies of this Resolution to the Governor of California, the City of Santa Ana, the State Transportation Board, the State Highway Commission, the State Department of Transportation, and to our State Senators and Assemblyman representing the City of Costa Mesa.
