HomeMy WebLinkAbout77-54 - Requesting Orange County Board of Supervisors for Solid Waste Disposal StationRESOLUTION NO. 77-54 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO HAVE EXPLORED THE FEASIBILITY OF A SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL TRANS- FER STATION IN THE SOUTH COAST REGION. WHEREAS, the County of Orange has determined it necessary to phase out the Coyote Canyon landfill, which serves Costa Mesa residents, sometime in early 1981 and to relocate the Class II facility north of the E1 Toro Marine Corps Air Station; and WHEREAS, the relocation of this landfill will have a major eco- nomic and level -of -service impact in terms of the collection, transfer, and disposal of solid waste materials generated in Costa Mesa and neighboring communities; and WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the need for a careful eco- nomic and environmental evaluation of the future solid waste disposal alternatives for the South Coast region; and WHEREAS, the Orange County Solid Waste Management Plan as mandated by the Nejedly-Z'berg-Dills Solid Waste Management and Resources Recov- ery Act suggests the possible need for a transfer station in the South Coast region contingent upon closure of the Coyote Canyon landfill; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa does formally request the Orange County Board of Supervisors to direct the General Services Agency - Solid Waste Management staff to explore the feasibility of a transfer station in the South Coast region. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Solid Waste Management Technical Advisory Committee be requested to work with the County staff on the aforementioned feasibility study in order to obtain multi -jurisdictional input into the process. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be forwarded to the appropriate local agencies and interested parties for concurrent adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 2nd day of May, 1977.
