HomeMy WebLinkAbout77-62 - Naming Park in Honor of Jacob W. ShifferRESOLUTION NO. 77--62 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, NAMING J. W. SHIFFER PARK IN HONOR OF JACOB W. SHIFFER. WHEREAS, Jacob W. Shiffer will celebrate his 100th birthday in August, 1977, with 67 of those as a resident of Costa Mesa, residing in the area of Paularino Avenue and Bear Street; and WHEREAS, in 1910 Jacob W. Shiffer, his wife, three children, his mother and father, and his younger brother came to this area from Hutchinson, Kansas; and WHEREAS, Mr. Shiffer was active in his community serving 37 years on the Paularino School Board and for 49 years as Sunday School Super- intendent of Greenville Country Church; and WHEREAS, a park is to be constructed on land once owned and farmed by Mr. Shiffer, which is across the street from Mr. Shiffer's present residence; and WHEREAS, this Council deems it to be both fitting and proper that Mr. Shiffer be recognized for the part he played in Costa Mesa's early history; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa that in honor of pioneer Jacob W. Shiffer, the park located in the vicinity of Bear Street and Paularino Avenue hereafter will be known as "J. W. Shiffer Park". PASSED AND ADOPTED this 16th day of May, 1977.
