A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
COSTA MESA RECOGNIZING THE EFFORTS OF GENE A.
ROBENS, COLONEL, U.S.A. (RETIRED) IN OBTAINING
APPROVAL AND CONSTRUCTION OF ROUTE 73, BEING
THE CORONA DEL MAR FREEWAY; RECOGNIZING HIS
LONG SERVICE AS GENERAL MANAGER OF SOUTH COAST ,..�
PLAZA; AND WISHING HIM WELL.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS
FOLLOWS:
THAT, WHEREAS, Gene A. Robens, Colonel, U.S.A., (Retired) has been
the General Manager of South Coast Plaza since January 23, 1967; and
WHEREAS, his unflagging enthusiasm and energetic activity served
to keep the Transportation Committee of the City fully informed of all
developments in the routing, planning, designing, and construction of
the Corona del Mar Freeway; and
WHEREAS, his determination that this freeway must be built served
to re -instill interest in City fathers of the City of Costa Mesa, and
staff of the California Department of Transportation; and
WHEREAS, his firm conviction that Route 73 must be completed
expressed itself in the leadership he showed as an advisor to the
Transportation Committee of the City of Costa Mesa, and in the vast
amount of information he acquired and freely shared with City fathers
concerning the almost daily details of the progress of the construction
of the Cornona del Mar Freeway;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Costa Mesa hereby commends Colonel Robens for his invaluable efforts
in obtaining the ultimate construction of the leg of the Corona del Mar
Freeway from the San Diego Freeway to the Newport Freeway.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council recognizes and
acknowledges his decision to leave his long active business life as
Manager of South Coast Plaza and commends him for his contribution to
the commerce and culture of the community of Costa Mesa.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Costa
Mesa extends every good wish for a successful new venture to Colonel
Robens.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution duly executed
and imprinted with the Great Seal of the City of Costa Mesa be presented
to Gene Robens, Colonel, U.S.A. (Retired) for his personal. records.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that this Resolution be filed with the
City Clerk and be made a permanent part of the archives of the City of
Costa Mesa.
