HomeMy WebLinkAbout77-116 - Support of Completion and Extension of Route 55 FreewayRESOLUTION NO. 77-116 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CONCERNING ITS STRONG SUPPORT OF THE COMPLETION AND EXTENSION OF ROUTE 55 (FREEWAY) THROUGH THE CITY OF COSTA MESA. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa met in an adjourned meeting on September 21, 1977, with members of the Costa Mesa Redevelopment Agency, Costa Mesa Tomorrow, and financial consultants to discuss the existing and future redevelopment projects within the City of Costa Mesa; and WHEREAS, by motion duly made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa reaffirmed its strong support of the Costa Mesa Redevelopment Agency's existing and future redevelop- ment projects, especially the "Super Block II" commercial block rede- velopment, and its financing via tax allocation bonds; and WHEREAS, the present uncertainty as to the completion of the already commenced and partially constructed freeway through the City of Costa Mesa, described as Route 55 from Bristol Street to the City of Costa Mesa's southerly boundary, has and continues to have a detrimental effect on the City of Costa Mesa's and Redevelopment Agency's efforts to upgrade and redevelop the existing project area and future projects; and WHEREAS, the City of Costa Mesa strongly urges and supports the completion and extension of said Route 55 for the aforementioned pur- poses, as well as the general health, safety, and welfare of the public; NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa unanimously supports the completion and extension of said Route 55 from Bristol Street to the City of Costa Mesa's southerly boundary. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa urges the Costa Mesa Redevelopment Agency and all its citizens to expend their concerted efforts to convince and persuade the appropriate branches, officials, and agencies of the State of California to accom- plish said completion and extension of Route 55 at the earliest possible moment and without further delay. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that duly executed copies of this Resolution should be distributed to the appropriate branches, officials, and agencies of the State of California to emphasize the City of Costa Mesa's urgent desire to accomplish its intended goal in maintaining a healthy, fiscally -sound, and pleasing community for the benefit of the general health, safety, and welfare of the public.
