A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, RECOGNIZING ALVIN AND
LUCY PINKLEY ON THE OCCASION OF THEIR RETIREMENT
FROM A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS VENTURE FOR FORTY-SIX
YEARS.
WHEREAS, Lucy and Alvin Pinkley settled in Costa Mesa in 1933,
raised their family of two children, Virgil and Betty, and have been
an integral part of the community for 46 years; and
WHEREAS, the Pinkleys opened their pharmacy and soda fountain
business on Newport Boulevard and both Mr. and Mrs. Pinkley became
involved in civic organizations and City government, Mr. Pinkley having
served as Mayor of the City of Costa Mesa for three separate terms of
office; and
WHEREAS, as the area grew in population and stature, "Pink's Drug
Store" became a popular stop for both young and old, whether it be to
pick up bits of information on issues of concern to the community, or
for purchase of medicines, or for one of their famous soda fountain
concoctions, and usually it was for the latter;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Costa Mesa wishes to congratulate Lucy and Alvin Pinkley for their
outstanding work in making "Pink's Drug Store" one of the most success-
ful and popular businesses in the City of Costa Mesa;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council, as well as all the
citizens of the City, will greatly miss the Pinkley's store which had
become so familiar to all who live in this area;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council extends best wishes
to Alvin and Lucy for a happy and relaxing retirement;
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that an executed copy of this Resolution go
forward to Alvin and Lucy Pinkley; and that an original of this Resolu-
tion be made a part of the perpetual records of the City of Costa Mesa.

I, EILEEN P. PHINNEY, City Clerk and ex -officio Clerk of the City
Council of the City of Costa Mesa, hereby certify that the above and
foregoing Resolution No. 79-93 was duly and regularly passed and adopted
by the said City Council at a regular meeting thereof, held on the 6th
day of August, 1979.
