A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, SETTING FORTH ALTERNATIVES
TO BE INCLUDED BY CALTRANS IN THE ROUTE 55 FREEWAY
DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT.
WHEREAS, the California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS),
in cooperation with the cities of Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, Irvine,
plus the County of Orange, the Orange County Transit District, and
the Orange County Transportation Commission has undertaken the Route
55 Transportation Study; and
WHEREAS, the Route 55 Transportation Study has included and
evaluated several alternatives for accommodating current and future
travel demands along the Route 55 Corridor; and
WHEREAS, at an adjourned regular meeting of the Costa Mesa City
Council held on February 23, 1981, nine corridor alternatives were
carefully considered;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Costa Mesa, that CALTRANS is hereby requested to include the
following corridor alternatives in the detailed study for the Draft
Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS):
(1) No project;
(2) Grade separations and widen Newport Boulevard;
(3) Viaduct/retaining wall along Newport Boulevard;
(4) Viaduct/retaining wall along Costa Mesa's alignment;
(5) Three levels of transit (guideway, park and ride, and
no project);
(6) Adopted freeway alignment to Industrial Way.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be forwarded
to the Route 55 Policy Advisory Committee, the Route 55 Technical
Advisory Committee, and the Citizens for the Completion of Route 55,
Incorporated.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 1st day of June, 1981.
