A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE COUNTY OF
ORANGE TO INCLUDE WITHIN THE ARTERIAL HIGHWAY
FINANCING PROGRAM THE DEVELOPMENT OF MAC ARTHUR
BOULEVARD.
WHEREAS, the City of Costa Mesa desires to widen bridge approach
on MacArthur Boulevard at Santa Ana River; and
WHEREAS, MacArthur Boulevard is an important arterial highway in
the County of Orange and of general County interest; and
WHEREAS, Article 2 and Article 3, Chapter 9, Division 2 of the
Streets and Highways Code authorizes a County, if it so desires, to
expend funds apportioned to it out of the California Highway Users Tax
Fund for aid to any city in the improvement, construction, or repair of
a street within a city; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors intends to, by appropriate
action, provide in the County Road budget for the Fiscal Year 1982-83
a sum of money for the improvement of streets within the incorporated
cities of the County in accordance with the Orange County Arterial
Highway Financing Program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Costa Mesa hereby requests the Board of Supervisors of the County
of Orange to allocate to said City from County funds the amount of
$100,000, said amount to be matched by funds from said City, to be used
to aid said City in the widening of MacArthur Bridge approach at Santa
Ana River; said improvements to be in accordance with the attached
project statement;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County
of Orange is hereby requested to find that said improvements on MacArthur
Boulevard in the manner provided, is in the general County interest;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that by this Resolution, the City of Costa
Mesa agrees with the basic concepts of the Arterial Highway Financing
Program; and further agrees that its share of the cost of improvements
will be available for the Fiscal Year 1982-83.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 4th day of January, 1982.

Prosect Features
MacArthur Boulevard is shown on Costa Mesa's Arterial Highway
Master Plan as a Primary Highway. The reconstruction and
widening of the bridge approach is necessary to provide transi-
tion to the new bridge to be constructed by the County.
MacArthur Boulevard is a vital East/West link between Fountain
Valley and Costa Mesa.
The funds requested include engineering and construction costs.
A cost estimate for construction is also included.
Project Financing
It is anticipated that the city will finance its portion of this
project from Gas Tax Funds.
