HomeMy WebLinkAbout84-12 - Commending California Elected Women's Association on 10th Anniversary29 RESOLUTICN NO. 84-12 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, COMMENDING CALIFORNIA ELECTED WOMEN'S ASSOCIATICN FOR EDUCATICN AND RESEARCH CN THE OCCASION OF ITS 10TH ANNIVERSARY. WHEREAS, the California Elected Women's Association for Education and Research was founded in February, 1974, as the first statewide association to facilitate the election of women to public office; and WHEREAS, CEWAER's membership encompasses women and men in a wide variety of public offices, including senators, members of the assembly, supervisors, council members, mayors, members of school boards, community college trustees, members of boards of equalization, goverment executives, and individuals interested in the political process; and WHEREAS, CEWAER encourages women to run for public office by providing a network of support and information for current and aspiring office holders, by offering a forum for women who hold public office, by sponsor- ing seminars on campaign strategies, techniques, and political skills, and by educating women on public issues and stimulating research on women and their role in government; and WHEREAS, CEWAM has been the crucible for an increase in the number of women elected to hold public office in California and has been the inspira- tion for the establishment of similar organizations in other states around the country; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that by the adoption of this Resolu- tion, the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa does hereby congratulate CEVAM on the completion of its first decade of service to women and to the entire State of California by helping women increase their participation in elected and appointed offices and does further extend to CEWAER its sincere best wishes for continued and expanded success in the future.
