A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, ADOPTING GENERAL PLAN
AMENDMENT GP -85-1C, AMENDING THE GENERAL PLAN OF
THE CITY OF COSTA MESA.
WHEREAS, the General Plan was adopted by the City Council of the City
of Costa Mesa by Resolution No. 81-67 on July 20, 1981; and
WHEREAS, the General Plan is a long-range, comprehensive document
which serves as a guide for the orderly development of Costa Mesa; and
WHEREAS, by its very nature, the General Plan needs to be updated and
refined to account for current and future carnnunity needs; and
WHEREAS, General Plan Amendment GP -85-1C, an application to change the
land use designation of properties located at 1607 and 1609 Orange Avenue
and a portion of the properties located at 1604, 1626-28, and 1640 Newport
Boulevard frcm Medium Density Residential to Commercial Center, has been
recommended for approval by the Planning Commission; and
WHEREAS, public hearings were duly held in accordance with Section
65355 of the Government Code of the State of California, all persons having
been given the opportunity to be heard both for and against General Plan
Amendment GP -85-1C; and
WHEREAS, this Council deems it to be in the best interest of the City
that said Amendment to the General Plan be adopted;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Costa Mesa, that the General Plan is hereby amended by the adoption of
General Plan Amendment GP -85-1C, Option 3, charging the land use designa-
tion of properties located at 1607 and 1609 Orange Avenue and a portion of
properties located at 1604, 1626-28, and 1640 Newport Boulevard frau Medium
Density Residential to Commercial Center.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Planning Staff is hereby directed to
prepare a Specific Plan for the expanded study area bordered by Newport
Boulevard, Orange Avenue, 16th Street, and 17th Street, except for the
Von's Shopping Center.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that based upon the findings of the Initial
Study prepared in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act,
a Negative Declaration of Environmental Impact has been prepared for said
Amendment and is hereby adopted.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 4th day of March, 1985.

Council of the City of Costa Mesa, hereby certify that the above and fore-
going resolution No. 85-19 was duly and regularly passed and adopted by
said City Council at a regular meting thereof held on the 4th day of
March, 1985.
