HomeMy WebLinkAbout19-07 - Project W Safe Transit Stops ProgramRESOLUTION NO. 19-07 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE SUBMITTAL OF AN APPLICATION TO THE ORANGE COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY FOR FUNDING UNDER THE PROJECT W SAFE TRANSIT STOPS PROGRAM FOR BUS STOP IMPROVEMENTS AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS, AND AUTHORIZING THE PUBLIC SERVICES DIRECTOR OR HIS DESIGNEE TO ACCEPT FUNDS AND TO EXECUTE ANY AND ALL NECESSARY AGREEMENTS IN CONNECTION WITH THE ACCEPTANCE OF SUCH FUNDS THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COSTA MESA HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: WHEREAS, the City of Costa Mesa ("City") desires to participate in the Project W Safe Transit Stops Program (the "Program" or "Project W"), which has a goal of providing value, safety, and convenience to enhance the overall transit experience; and WHEREAS, the City will act as the lead agency in designing, constructing, and maintaining bus stop improvements and Orange County Transportation Authority ("OCTA") will function as the funding agency under the Program; and WHEREAS, Project W funding is available for the 100 busiest bus stop locations across Orange County, four (4) of which are located in the City of Costa Mesa; and WHEREAS, the OCTA has determined that the City meets the eligibility requirements to receive funds as part of the Program; and WHEREAS, the City desires to implement bus stop improvements at three (3) of the four (4) eligible bus stop locations; and WHEREAS, the City desires to implement bus stop improvements at the following bus stop locations: 1. Fairview Road north of Arlington Drive, 2. Placentia Avenue south of 19th Street, and 3. Harbor Boulevard north of Wilson Street; and WHEREAS, the City is willing and able to conform to the terms, conditions and limitations imposed upon the City in connection with the Project W funding; and Resolution No. 19-07 Page 1 of 3 WHEREAS, the City desires to accept any funds which may be awarded to the City in connection with the Program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Costa Mesa that: 1. The City Council hereby requests the Orange County Transportation Authority allocate funds in the amounts specified in the funding application for the Project W Safe Transit Stops Program. 2. The City Council hereby authorizes the Public Services Director or his designee to submit an application for the Project W Safe Transit Stops Program for the 2018- 19 Fiscal Year for and on behalf of the City of Costa Mesa. The City Council further authorizes the Public Services Director to accept any funds awarded by the Orange County Transportation Authority and to execute any agreements, assurances, or other documents as may be necessary in connection with the acceptance of such funds, and to invoice the Orange County Transportation Authority for reimbursement of allocated funds as appropriate.
